Amri and the Golden Picnic Bell

Kids stories

A small, caring Knight named Amri helps a lonely Ogre return the Golden Picnic Bell, with kind help from Sun Knight.
Amri and the Golden Picnic Bell

In a bright Kingdom, there was a small Knight named Amri loves his family. Everyone called him Amri.

Amri had a round silver helmet, little blue boots, and a soft red cape. His cape was very small. It went flap, flap, flap when he walked.

Amri loved his family very much. He loved Mama, Papa, Grandma, and his baby sister, Nila. Every morning, he gave them hugs.

“Hug for Mama!” said Amri.
“Hug for Papa!” said Amri.
“Hug for Grandma!” said Amri.
“Baa!” said Nila.

Amri laughed. “And a hug for Nila too!”

One sunny day, the Kingdom was ready for the Golden Picnic. There were yellow cakes, red apples, and a big blue blanket in the castle garden.

Then the sky went gray.

Whoosh.

A large Ogre stomped down the hill. Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.

The Ogre had huge boots and a green nose. He looked grumpy. In his hands was the Golden Picnic Bell.

“I took the bell,” grumbled the Ogre. “Now no one can have a picnic.”

“Oh no,” said Mama.
“Oh dear,” said Papa.
“Baa?” said Nila.

Amri’s knees felt wobbly. The Ogre was very big. But Amri looked at his family. They looked sad.

“I am small,” said Amri. “But I can help.”

Just then, a shining horse came clip-clop over the bridge. On the horse sat Sun Knight. His armor was gold. His smile was warm. A tiny sun sparkled on his shield.

“Hello, brave Amri,” said Sun Knight. “Would you like help?”

“Yes, please,” said Amri.

Sun Knight bent close. “We do not need to fight the Ogre. First, we can listen.”

So Amri and Sun Knight walked up the hill. Amri’s cape went flap, flap, flap. Sun Knight’s golden shield went glint, glint, glint.

The Ogre sat beside a little cave. He held the bell tight.

“Hello, Ogre,” said Amri in a small voice.

The Ogre blinked. “Hello, tiny Knight.”

“Why are you sad?” asked Amri.

The Ogre looked away. “Nobody asks me to the Golden Picnic. I am too big. I break chairs. I eat too much cake. So I took the bell.”

Amri nodded. “That feels lonely.”

The Ogre sniffed. “Yes. Very lonely.”

Sun Knight had an idea. “Ogre, can you use your big hands gently?”

The Ogre opened and closed his hands. “Maybe.”

“We need help,” said Amri. “The picnic blanket keeps blowing away. Can you hold its corners?”

The Ogre stood up. He was still big. But now he looked curious.

“I can hold things,” he said.

Back in the castle garden, the wind went whooo. The blue blanket flew up.

The Ogre caught one corner.

Amri caught another corner.

Sun Knight caught two corners with his shiny shield.

Mama brought apple juice. Papa brought a strong wooden bench. Grandma brought an extra-big plate. Nila brought one little spoon.

“Teamwork!” cried Amri.

The Ogre carefully sat on the grass. He did not break one chair, because he did not sit on a chair at all.

Then he gave back the Golden Picnic Bell.

“Ring it, Amri,” he said.

Amri held the bell with both hands. Ding! Ding! Ding!

The gray clouds floated away. The sun came back. Birds sang. Everyone clapped.

The Ogre ate three cakes. Then four cakes. Then he stopped.

“May I have one more?” he asked politely.

“Yes!” said everyone.

After the picnic, Sun Knight opened a small golden box. Inside was a new treasure for Amri: a bright little shield with a picture of a family holding hands.

“For Knight Amri,” said Sun Knight. “It is the Shield of Kind Words.”

Amri held it high. The shield made a soft warm glow.

“Thank you,” said Amri. “I was scared. But I listened. And I helped.”

Mama hugged him. Papa hugged him. Grandma hugged him. Nila patted his helmet and said, “Baa!”

Even the Ogre gave a very careful, very gentle hug.

Amri’s red cape went flap, flap, flap.

In the happy Kingdom, small Knight Amri went home with his family, his new shining shield, and a big bag of golden picnic cakes. He smiled all the way home.
