Amethyst and the Quiet Colors

Kids stories

In the Enchanted Forest, little Fairy Amethyst finds the colors are gone. With Fox, Elf, and Water Nymph, she meets the Crystal Guardian and learns how to bring the colors back—softly and kindly.
Amethyst and the Quiet Colors

Amethyst is a little Fairy. She is shy, but very brave. She lives in the Enchanted Forest.

One morning, the forest looks dull. The flowers are pale. The mushrooms are gray.

Amethyst holds her tiny wand. “Oh,” she whispers. “Where did the colors go?”

Fox runs up. Fox is quick and silly. His tail swishes-swish. “I saw the colors!” Fox says. “They ran away like giggles!”

Elf steps out from behind a tree. Elf is calm and clever. “Not ran,” Elf says. “Hidden.”

From a ferny pool, Water Nymph pops up. Splash! She is gentle and kind. “The river feels sleepy,” she says.

Amethyst takes a small breath. “We will bring the colors back,” she says.

They walk on a soft path. Leaves go crunch, crunch. Birds go peep, peep.

Soon they reach a shining place: a crystal arch in the woods. It hums, hmm-hmm.

In front stands the Crystal Guardian. It is tall and bright, like a big ice statue.

“STOP,” says the Crystal Guardian. “Colors are too loud. I keep them safe.”

Fox covers his ears. “Too loud? But colors are happy!”

Elf bows. “We are gentle. We just want the forest to smile.”

Water Nymph touches the pool. “Without colors, the water feels cold.”

Amethyst looks up. Her wings flutter. She feels a wobble in her tummy. But she stays.

“Hello, Guardian,” she says softly. “I am Amethyst. I can be quiet. Please show us.”

The Guardian’s eyes glow. “Prove you can be quiet,” it says.

Fox tries first. He tip-toes. Tip… tip… then—ACHOO!

Fox freezes. “Oops.”

The Guardian frowns.

Amethyst giggles a tiny giggle. Then she puts one finger to her lips. “Shhh,” she says.

Elf whispers, “We can do a quiet game.”

They play: Quiet Steps. Quiet Hands. Quiet Hearts.

Water Nymph makes soft bubbles, pop… pop… like lullabies.

Fox holds his sneeze with both paws. His eyes go wide. He looks very proud.

Amethyst lifts her wand. She does not shout. She does not sparkle big.

She makes one small, gentle light—like a firefly.

The crystal arch warms. The Guardian watches.

“Hmm,” says the Guardian. “That is… nice.”

Amethyst nods. “Colors can be soft,” she says. “Like sunset. Like rose petals. Like your crystals.”

The Guardian’s shoulders drop. “I was scared,” it admits. “Long ago, the forest had too much noise. I hid the colors in my crystal vault.”

Elf smiles. “We can use them kindly.”

Fox bounces once, then stops. “I can bounce quietly!”

Water Nymph sings, very low, “Come back, colors.”

The Guardian opens the crystal arch. Inside is a rainbow swirl, curled up like a sleeping scarf.

Amethyst reaches in carefully. “Wake up,” she whispers.

WHOOSH—soft whoosh! The colors float out.

Green returns to the leaves. Pink returns to the flowers. Gold returns to sun spots.

The Enchanted Forest looks bright again.

The Crystal Guardian blinks. “It is… beautiful,” it says.

As a thank you, the Guardian gives Amethyst a treasure: a tiny crystal bell on a ribbon. It shines purple, like amethyst.

“When you ring it,” says the Guardian, “the forest will glow gently, never too loud.”

Amethyst smiles wide. “I will take good care,” she says.

Fox grins. “Can I ring it once?”

“Once,” says Amethyst.

Ding!

A soft rainbow sparkles over their heads.

They all laugh—quiet laughs—and walk home under bright, happy trees.
