Jackson and the Shiny Pebble

Jackson was a little Explorer. He wore a small hat. He had a tiny backpack. He liked to look, listen, and wonder.

One morning, Jackson walked into the Enchanted Forest. The trees hummed. The flowers blinked like sleepy eyes.

“Hello, Forest,” said Jackson.

A Jungle Guide stepped from behind a fern. The Guide had a bright scarf and a kind smile. “I can help you,” said the Jungle Guide. “But we walk slow and safe.”

Jackson nodded. “Slow. Safe.”

Suddenly, the air went gray. The green leaves looked dull.

“Uh-oh,” whispered the Monkey, swinging down. The Monkey was playful and quick. “Colors are hiding!”

A Lion padded out too. The Lion was big, but gentle. “We will help,” said the Lion. “Together.”

From a dark bush came a low growl. A Monster peeked out. It had shaggy fur and big, worried eyes.

Jackson held his backpack tight. His knees felt wiggly.

The Jungle Guide said softly, “We can be brave and kind.”

Jackson took a deep breath. “Hello, Monster,” he said.

The Monster sniffed. “I didn’t want to scare you,” it mumbled. “I lost my shiny pebble. Without it, the Forest feels sad. So I hid… and the colors hid too.”

Monkey tilted its head. “A shiny pebble? Like a tiny treasure?”

Monster nodded. “It glows. It makes the leaves sparkle.”

“Let’s find it,” said Jackson. “We help.”

They walked past whispering vines. They crossed a soft moss bridge. They listened.

Lion said, “I hear drip-drip.”

They found a little pond. The water was still. Monkey made a silly face at its reflection. “Boop!”

Jackson giggled, then looked close. In the water, something winked.

“Shiny!” said Jackson.

But it was deep. Jackson was small.

Jungle Guide pointed. “Use a stick, Explorer. Slow and steady.”

Jackson picked a long stick. Lion held it steady with a paw. Monkey pointed and chirped, “Left! No, other left!”

Jackson carefully scooped. Plop! The shiny pebble rolled onto the grass.

The Monster’s mouth fell open. “My pebble!”

The Monster hugged it, but gentle, like hugging a cookie.

The pebble glowed warm gold. Whoosh! The Forest turned bright again. Leaves shone. Flowers popped with color.

The Monster blinked. “Thank you,” it said. “I was lonely. I can be your friend.”

Jackson smiled. “Friends.”

As a reward, the Monster tapped the pebble on Jackson’s backpack. A small star badge appeared, shiny and real.

“For the brave Explorer,” said the Monster.

Jackson touched the badge. “I did it.”

Lion rumbled happily. Monkey clapped. Jungle Guide said, “You used brave words and clever hands.”

They all walked home under bright, singing trees. Jackson’s new star badge sparkled all the way.
