Charlie and the Lost Button at the Station

Kids stories

At the Station, Charlie’s blue button rolls under a bench. With help from a kind Alchemist—and a teasing toy train—Charlie uses bravery and a clever idea to get it back, then earns shiny star stickers as treasure.
Charlie and the Lost Button at the Station

Charlie is a boy. He is small, but brave. He likes to help.

One sunny day, Charlie stands at the Station. The Station is big. It has trains that go choo-choo. It has clocks that tick-tock.

Charlie holds a little bag. Inside is his snack. He smiles.

Then—uh oh.
A Toy rolls by on tiny wheels.
It is a toy train. It is shiny. It goes, “Beep! Beep!”

The Toy bumps Charlie’s bag.
Pop!
A little blue button falls out.
It bounces.
It rolls.
It rolls under the long bench.

Charlie blinks. “My button,” he says softly. “Where did it go?”

A voice says, “I can help.”
It is the Alchemist.
The Alchemist is a kind helper who mixes safe, sparkly potions. He wears a coat with many pockets. He smells like lemons.

“I am good at finding tiny things,” the Alchemist says.
Charlie nods. “Please.”

They kneel down. The bench is dark underneath.
Charlie feels a little scared.
The Alchemist whispers, “Hold my hand. We go slow.”
Charlie holds on tight.

The Toy train peeks out. “Beep-beep! Mine now!” it teases.
Charlie frowns. “Not yours. It is mine.”

The Alchemist takes out a small bottle. “This is a glow drop,” he says. “It makes light, not heat. Safe.”
He taps one drop on the floor.
Glow!
A soft light spreads like a night-light.

Charlie gasps. “Pretty.”

Now they can see.
There is dust.
There is a lost ticket.
And there—there is the blue button!

But the Toy train blocks it.
It wiggles and laughs. “Beep! Catch me!”

Charlie thinks.
He is clever.
He points to the Station clock. “Tick-tock,” he says. “Train, do you like races?”

The Toy train loves races.
It zooms out from under the bench. “Beep-beep! I am fast!”

Charlie giggles. “Race to the yellow line!”
He points.
The Toy train zooms to the line.

“Now freeze,” the Alchemist says gently.
He blows a bubble from a little straw.
Pop!
A sticky bubble lands on the Toy train.
It is not mean.
It just makes the Toy stop rolling.

The Toy train huffs. “Beep…”
Charlie walks over. He bends down and looks close.
“I can share,” Charlie says. “But you must ask.”

The Toy train is quiet.
Then it says, very small, “Can I play too?”

Charlie smiles. “Yes. After we fix my bag.”

Charlie crawls back to the bench.
He picks up the blue button.
He feels proud.

The Alchemist pulls out a tiny thread and a safe, dull needle. “I will do the sharp part,” he says.
Charlie watches.
In and out.
In and out.
Done!

Charlie claps. “Yay!”

The Alchemist opens another pocket. “A reward,” he says.
He gives Charlie a sticker sheet of little stars and trains.
“Shiny treasure for a brave helper.”

Charlie’s eyes go wide. “Mine?”
“Yes,” says the Alchemist.

Charlie gives the Toy train one sticker, too.
The Toy train beeps happily. “Friend!”

A real train whooshes in.
Wind whoosh!
People wave.

Charlie holds his bag tight.
He waves back.
At the Station, Charlie found his lost button.
And he found a new friend.
And he has star stickers to take home.
